View Full Version : Amendment to fps rules

The fps rules are changing slightly for the remainder of this season and into next season. Also pre-game chronoing of guns is now mandatory for all players. Any gun that exceeds the fps limit will not be allowed on the field so its up the the owner to make sure his kit is compliant.
1- New guys will not be allowed to exceed 330 fps for their 1st 10 official AAS games. At the end of these 10 games an upgrade still must be approved by the admins. Admins can increase or decrease the 10 game limit as they see fit, depending on a players compliance with AAS rules, maturity and experience.
2- the 400fps cap for AEGs is being lowered to a 380 soft cap. The soft cap means you can go slightly over this limit.
*Grandfather clause: Players with less than 5 games experience will have any games they have played to this point count against the 10 game limit. players with over 5 games experience can be granted an upgrade with admin approval.
Note: The way to get your limit shortened
Basically anyone who plays within the rules and that I never have to talk to is off to a good start. However, in addition, what we are looking for are safe players who are able to maintain fire discipline no matter how intense things get. What I mean by fire discipline is courteous aiming and courteous volume of fire. So don't use 50 BBs when 1 or 2 will do the job. Aim low when you are close in, or aim for limbs and gear so you can insure you wont hurt anyone. Use the mercy rule when appropriate. All this being said accidents do happen so as long as you are not a continuous repeat offender ( you will know if you are because I will be speaking to you) don't panic.
The whole reason for this rule is purely safety and nothing more. We all know what it was like when we were new, a squirrel farting in the bushes leads to a hail storm of BBs.

This is a great change to the rules. not only will it give newer players (like me) a set ground rule for upgrading, but it will get us to play more before we decide if an upgrade it really needed or they just like the idea of having a high FPS.
not only that, I finally get to find out what my G3's FPS is XD
Also on a side note. What happens to new players that bought something like a JG, where they moastly fire over 330 out of the box. Can you really expect them to throw out more money to downgrade RIGHT AWAY or will there be a leway on that?

if anything it should make new players think about what they're buying and not just grab the first thing that comes along.
I also agree with this change for nothing lest then the fact that players will become more mindful of their gear and the way they play.
and this means the crono will be at every AAS game from now on right?

that is correct. i will need to get my shit in gear and remember it :p

most noobs that have high FPS are usually running away from what they are shooting at. So really a FPS of 350 is brought down to 320 as they run away. :D
I like it. This is something that should be put in the rules of AAS.

thats why we call it an amendment

Is the new fps rule based on a 0.20g bb or is it whatever you're using for the day, say if I bring 0.25's will my gun be chrono'ed using 0.25's?
Should be done using .2g however we could possibly do it using energy also.
Knight

All chrono results are based off the energy of a 0.2g BB moving at speed X. so Basically i will ask you what BBs you are using and I will add a number (which i am working on now with chrono tests) to compensate for the extra mass. But as bean said, 0.2g BBs should be used.
Perhaps field fees should cover a small handful of .2g bb's for chrono's?

With the amount of people that have .2's, i think people can spare a couple for people to chrono. That being said, i know that .25's usually drop the FPS by about 30

ya thats pretty much what i think too but im gonna come up with an exact figure so theres no advantage

I think ppl should be able to spare 2-3 .2's for the ability to play.

If I am not mistaken, kinetic energy=1/2mv^2
m being mass(kg) and v being velocity(meters/s)
Therefor.
330 FPS 100.6 m/s
0.20gbb 0.0002 kg
energy=1/2(0.0002)100.6^2
energy=1.01 Joules
from that you can find that
1.01J=1/2(0.00025)v^2
1.01 / 0.000125 = v^2
8080 = v^2
v = 89.9 M/s or 294.9 FPS
TL;DR, a 0.25 going 295FPS has the same energy as a 0.2 going 330 FPS (1J)

Hey, I guess were considered noobs to you guys cause we never played with you guys yet, but we plan on traveling down for games, most of us have3-6 years of airsoft, Im ordering a G&G Scar, is there any way around down grading? Are those Velocity Reducers worth it? The ones that have the 14mm threads? Cause im about to spend close to 700$ so it would kind of suck to downgrade for a few games... maybe we can use those Velocity reducers to gain your guy's trust that were not idiots, we know no one likes a gun pissing on them, we know all the rules, we just want a different experience than before.

I think I can speak for most when I say that we'd love to have you guys down for some games, right now we have three fields on the go and other one going up this spring, in total there must be at least 350 acres of good gaming to be had, and the more warm bodies the better.
As for the rules, Knight is the one you will want to talk to, but as I understand it, the rules are in place specifically to guard against new players (new to the sport) from hurting themselves and other with guns gear that is too much too soon. If you do in fact have 3 to 6 years experience and are willing to have your guns checked, and most importantly you're not nervous in the service, then it shouldn't be a problem.
either way, Knight is again the one you would want to speak to directly to get an answer.
and you're more than welcome to come down for some games.

these are club rules with no exceptions. if after your first game with us the admins feel you are experienced enough it is possible to get an exemption. this exemption is not guaranteed after your first game though.
unfortunately we cant just take your word for it as you would not be the first person to claim to have a ton of experience and then turn out to play like a total jackass. Not saying that's the case with you but we have to cover our ass.

instead of downgrading can we use Velocity Reducers?
The problem with velocity reducers is they only work in semi. In full auto the first will be slowed and the rubber cant recover enough and they only have the velocity reduced ever so slightly.
STATS

im sure if the rubber is at 45% reduced the first shot will shoot like 100FPS, and then then rest would shoot like 300ish, since it wont fully recover, il buy a chrono and try it out, cause id hate to spend money on a brand new gun to make it shoot slower
Knight

it has been prooven velocity reducers dont work, so we dont allow them as an option.
your cheapest option would likely be to rent. unless you know someone with the skill set to do the downgrade your gun for free.
I know this is a royal pain in the ass but its worth it so that new guys with a pile of money cant show up and hurt people.
There is this weird assumption amongst new players that speed = distance and accuracy. That is not correct. The tm m14 shoots 310fps and will out range a large percentage of aegs. its hopup. For the most part all high fps does it get the bb there faster and break things down faster.

Look at Steve-o's M14. Was shooting 280 stock and was out ranging my M4 at 380

If he WAS still around I'd TOTALLY join his team instead of MSS. Stargate was a documentary, and the events were filmed in real time. Those guys are totally badass.
