Battery Question

I have a question about my battery. it is a Nickel Metal Hydride (that how you spell it?) I talked to knight at the dorchester op, and he told me that it is best to keep it fully charged when not in use. well here is my dilema. at the moment I do not have a smart charger, although it is going to be one of my next purchases. so I have this battery, that still has some charge. how much? i dont know. so do i use the charger i have, and charge her up, or do i go shoot a bunch of pop cans to drain it completely then charge it up so i know the time i have to charge it for?

Any suggestions would be apreciated.
